Who We Are

The principal and owner and designer of The Pastors House website is Janet V. Kennedy-Jacobs, a long-term business professional specializing in statutory compliance information for churches and clergy for over thirty years.   She has served churches and clergy by providing statutory (regulatory) information to insure that the “business” side of church operations is taken care of to avoid interruption due to a lack of compliance with governing regulations.  We like to say that the “church is a business too.”   It’s just that the “business” of the church is “spiritual”.

Over the years I have heard so many pastors and church officers use the phrase “separation of church and state” to mean that the government  has no say  in church business.  When in fact, all of the “tax exemptions”, “income exclusions”,  and so many more of the benefits churches and clergy enjoy are provided by a federal, state or local statute.  Churches pay no income taxes. For example, a church could have annual contribution income of $10,000 a year to $1,000,000 a year and pay no income taxes.   Churches pay no property taxes.  Church purchases are sales tax exempt.

Not to oversimplify, but the benefit of churches and non-profit organizations is that they “assist” the government in moderating the behavior of society.  Churches help to “reduce” the negative impact there could otherwise be by promoting civility.

Janet V. Kennedy-Jacobs, The Church Business Consultant®, has taken her college education, corporate business experience, sole proprietorship business experience of over thirty five years and dedicated it to serving churches and clergy in some capacity.  She specializes in clergy income tax and compensation planning which includes the housing allowance.

The main message of The Pastor’s House, The Invaluable Housing Allowance, is to help pastoring clergy take advantage of the biggest benefit in the tax code for clergy which is the housing allowance. Basically, the housing allowance (when properly executed) can save a pastor many thousands of dollars in tax savings every year up to and including retirement.
